No idea myself! Earlier digging has not turned up a filter number for this item, either after market or from bmw?, or a service interval. Things may have moved on a little since i looked though....

The filters are made exclusively for BMW and are not available as an after market part. They are sold by BMW but only if you buy a fuel pump. The way they look at it is that it only needs changing if the fuel pump fails.

Having said that I do have one which I acquired from the manufacturer. Never used it though.

Understand. And how long fuel pump goes? 40 thousend kilometer drive my xchallenge.

I seem to remember Tee Bee found a suitable filter and a way of attaching it but it seems the details have gone from the net.

Yes it can be done fairly easy, but probably the best thing is to take the filter out and very carefully reverse blow it with an airline ,or your lungs :),before it courses a problem.
40,000 kms isn,t very much ,unless you,ve been using dirty fuel.

The biggest problem is the earth terminal inside the electrical plug ,overheating and melting .This causes fuel to leak from that area and intermittent engine stalling ,until it stops altogether.!!!!!
The answer is to remove the plug altogether solder 4 wires onto the pins on top of the pump housing and connect them up ,using a good quality connector ,before this happens.

Never heard about this. Which electrical connector are you referring to? The one on the outside of the tank under the seat? Solder 4 wires to what?

Do away with the plug that connects to the top of the plastic pump cover and connect the wires further up the wiring loom.
The earth wire gets hot, corrodes and melts the earth terminal, after a few long distance miles........
