Thinking of fitting them to my 80GS. Are any better than others at doing the job or are they generally all the same?

Are Motorworks, etc etc the best to purchase from?

Cheers

I put some glass and chrome ones on mine
they look better than the placky ones - I think I got um from Motobins at about 4 quid each

The square plastic ones I put on last thursday have both started to leak. I had heard reports that the higher methanol/ethanol levels in modern petrol would cause problems for plastic tanks and was wondering if this may be part of the same effect.
Anyone any ideas?

There's a mesh that is "cleanable". However, I have a rusty tank, and the mesh allowed fine powder oxide to go through to the carb bowls while capturing some.

Cheers

If you need them it is as well to fit the larger option with a pleated paper filter, and replace them as a service item, max every other oil change.

I have found the brass ball type dont filter that well and yet block up quickly too!

You might be on to something there. I put some small plastic square filters on another bike an they went very brittle and fell apart. I thought they must be crappy quality ones and just throw them away.

I use the small Halfords own brand. They are plastic and I have never had any problem with them going brittle or leaking.

Don't bother. You have a very fine mesh filter in the tank attached to the fuel tap. Less is more.

If you use the in line filters they block and don't allow fuel through if you get water in them.
If any crap does get through, including water it collects in the float bowl, that's one of reasons it's there.

The bikes i've seen over the years with running problems just because of inline fuel filters.

That reminds me I must get a set too. I noticed that one of them had its pleated card bit rotating around so obviously its not filtering as it should now. Mind you its been there for 3 years so they can't last forever.
