Fuel Injection Cleaner ???....

OK I thought I would ask to find out what are the thoughts out there of occassionally using a Fuel Injection cleaner to clean up the injectors and/or throttle bodies....

Is it a Good or Bad thing?
cheers

Depends on where you get your fuel. Some of the bigger companies add cleaning additives to their fuel anyway so the extra you put in won't do a lot. Personally I've never used it for the bike with no problems (was going through about 40l per week in fuel for a long time) but I do once every 6 months for the discovery, and I use supermarket fuel which others don't rate.

Injectors themselves can be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, areosol carb cleaner should do the throttle bodies.

A couple of years ago my mate had lots of trouble with his 1150 misfiring, engine cutting out losing power you name it. We did allsorts plugs, leads all the electrical connections Etc.

At wits end and as a last resort we put some injector cleaner in and after about 2 minutes problem gone. Run some through mine every year.

I asked the question because mine has just been serviced and now its dog rough at cold start-up. Black smoke for the first few fists of throttle and lumpy.. Not wanting to run etc. Balanced TB's one was out, but both equal now but still running bad at start up from cold, once warm it runs quite sweet. I normally dump injector cleaner in the diesel cars we have but I have never put any in the bike before...

Second that
many years ago it was common practive with petrol mechanical fuel injectors to take them off leave them overnight in the Forte cleaner

The forte one is very good we use it @ work on sticking injectors

Is Forte cleaner only available to the trade?
I have not seen that make on the shelves at my local Alford’s, Is there any other recommended injector cleaner that is worth putting in?...

I've been told that SLICK 50 injection cleaner is good. I'm going to stick some through my 1150RT in the next couple of weeks.

I've also heard of 1150 motors having heavy carbon build-up on valves etc - some say from supermarket fuels - those without cleaners.

With so many small petrol garages going out of business in my area is getting hard to find non supermarket petrol, I heared that we now have the same number of outlets as in 1912 but a lot more vehicles?

Possibly, but then they'll have larger tanks and better econ so use less fuel and need to fill up less often. It would be interesting to see the volume of fuel used for general motoring over the last 100 years.
