I've got a 2013 LC with 11000 miles on the clock. for quite a while now I've had a strong smell of fuel after I've filled the tank up. I thought it was just a bit of over-spill or expansion.
I finally got round to investigating it and it seems the fuel tank is distorted where the filler pipe seals down onto it, allowing quite a bit of fuel to spill out

I've taken the filler assembly off and cleaned the gasket ring, tried to get a good seal but there's a gap of quite a few mm on one edge. I rang my local dealer to ask their advice and they hadn't heard of this before apparantly. They suggest a new tank but at £650 +VAT I'm exploring other options first!

I've found a fuel resistant silicon online that I thought I might try. If I put a good thick bead around the gasket and gently seat the filler down onto it, I hope it might seal the gap.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any other ideas for a solution?

ideas ? yes fix it properly ! fire is not a good !,source a 2nd hand tank i reckon

My first LC had the tank replaced due to a distorted filler neck - same symptoms as you're describing. Done under warranty.

Do you use a tank bag?
