Fuel pipe dilema, bike in customs, need info

Hi all,

My 1150 adv is in Indian customs at the moment, so I cant get to it to measure the pipe that runs from one side of the tank to the other with a q/d inbetween it (q/d = quick disconnect?) as this q/d is broken, I need to find another q/d so that I can ride off the pallet and into town!

Can anyone tell me what size this pipe is? Even better, how can I get the old one off and new one on - just brute force? It was bloody hard to get it to shift as I remember when I gave it a go.

I think it's standard 6mm ID fuel pipe....it'll be crimped onto the spigots with those nasty BWM crimp fittings but you'd be best off replacing those with small Jubilee clips.

My QD is jammed or I'd pull it out and measure the length.....I'm guessing it's about 12-13" long but a bit of slack wouldn't hurt...if you can buy 18" of standard fuel pipe and a couple of small Jub clips you should be fine

PS these people seem to make a hell of a lot of the world's fuel hose and they also make QD connectors

I had a feeling that the fuel lines were 8mm ID, I could be wrong though.

It's definately not 9mm.

I've measured the bit I've got here and bizarrely, it appears to be exactly 7mm inside diameter.....I'm guessing it should be 6mm but it's been stretched by the spigots to7

If you don't have any luck with Fanum's contact take a rickshaw up to the Karol bagh auto bazar to get your fuel line and clips. You can find everything there or if your really stuck Lalli singh at Inder motors would be able to arrange a pick up truck to collect your bike (very cheap) He has a lot of experiance with shipping Enfields back to Europe and can arrange all sorts things.

So I'll see him tomorrow - but will try Karol bagh auto bazar if no joy there. Thanks Duncan / Fanum, you've been a great help. I've been quoted up to $100 dollars to get the bike out today, cant wait to get it out and see how my nerves stand up in the New Delhi traffic!

Take care in that traffic - don't matter how big your bike is , motorcycles come pretty low in the pecking order. Hope you get on the road soon.

6mm IS correct.

Don't worry about having too much fuel line - you can always trim it to size.

You don't NEED the QD, although it does make life a lot easier. If you can't get hold of any then get a couple of jubilee clips and some bolts with a 7mm diameter. Cut a short length of fuel line which is open on one end and secure the bolt in the other end with the jubilee clip. You'll want two of these.

When you disconnect the existing pipe put your thumb over the end you've disconnected and stick your stubby pipe onto the tank. Repeat for the other tank lobe. Use the old fuel line as a guide to cut the new one and then replace (with or without QD)

It's a bit of a pain and some fuel *will* piss out on the floor/your hands etc but it'll get you running.

After paying the first bribe of 1500 rupees today ( about 17 quid ) I am told that I can get the bike out of customs tomorrow.

I'llk get the tube tonight hopefully and will fit tomorrow all being good, thanks so much for the help.

Hi Brian,

Good news on the customs front . Your horn will be worn out by the time you leave India ! Mine packed up once, very scary without one as people expect to hear you coming. You are probably already aware, but avoid riding after dark (towns are ok) on the open road its seriously dangerous, got caught out a couple of times - very scary . Hope you get on the road tomorrow.
