R1200GS Adventure. Made approx 10/07.

I have read a link ( don't know how to copy it across ) and also a BMW instruction when I recently fitted a part and both refer to a waterproof rubber cover ( part number 16117675682 ) that fits over the left recess, hole if you like, on the left side of the tank where the fuel sender unit and other bits plug in.

At the moment both the left and right side are the same. The recess is white in colour and plastic and fills up with water as soon as it rains or you wash the bike. A cover is needed and when I saw this my thoughts were that my Adventure was missing it.

I phoned BMW and they seem to think it is only a GS fitment but are not sure. ( no mechanic about to ask!!! )

Is this just a GS fitment or an Adventure one as well.

Just seems a crazy design to allow water to sit in an angle recess that can only get out with evaporation or flying over speed humps!!!!

Thanks

Compared the parts fiche from max bmw, and the cover is shown, but not listed as a part for the ADV. It is listed , as the part number you quoted, for the standard GS. Although i think some ADV's do have them fitted. Not really a definitive answer, sorry.

A liberal coating of WD-40 after a wash....:thumb

No good. It's the water that gets past the gasket to the recess under the relay that causes failure. Trust me I'm on my 3rd with the 4th waiting in my top box.

And before you ask I don't wash it that often, but do ride in all weathers.

There is clearly a design problem because loads of people moan about the relays and carry a spare.

Nowts think, have they sorted the design out for the 2008 model? My money says NOT!!!
