Full exhaust on a DOHC?

Has anyone replaced the exhaust on a twin cam?
I was looking at another bike and it sounded better but if i was to change the full system and de-cat it i would lose the valve in it.
Would that matter? Or would it cause a fault on turning on because it checks that?
Or can you get a Y piece to just take the cat out and leave the rest?

You can fit 2008/9 spec Remus headers ('Y' piece) and a Remus/Akra/Boss etc..muffler combo.

This will do away with the daft exhaust valve, which serves no purpose apart from noise emissions compliance.
