Galibier pass near Briancon

This is a well used summer pass which is often used by the Tour de France cycle race, there are loads of German bikers (mostly on GS) who use this area but on our recent visit we were the only Bristish reg. bike we saw! A very fine road for biking, good cheap hotels nearby it is worth a visit, about 660 miles from Calais and a good long long week-end trip.
 
Unless you go within a week of le tour... all stunning views spoilt by precariously parked motor homes. Little white blots all over the landscape!:D
 
I've done Col du Galibier three times all in September and its relatively quiet then.
