Hi, my first post....

I was in Gallipoli June this year, stayed at the crowded house hostel, I found them on the web cheap clean and friendly. Depending on weather and time the route through romania and bulgaria to turkey is a hoot. speed limit in turkey for bikes is 70kph but you can talk your way out of most encounters with the police. you will need a very good colour copy of your V5 or the original along with your p/port and about 20quid for insurance at the turkey border.

Syria and Lebanon April / May 2010

I'll be going that way, I was also thinking of going into Syria and Jordan. :thumb
Andy.

Three to four Croatian bikers (a 1200 GSA + 3 V stroms) plan to travel from Zagreb, Croatia to Damascus, Syria and Lebanon end of April beg. of May 2010. trip's duration (from Zagreb and back) ca 12 - 14 days. We might also join the Gallipoli meeting enroute. Anyone interested to join us?

Yes, possibly, but I won't be making any definite plans until next year. :thumb

The lastest news is there is no real news on this trip.

Our intended end destination (Eceabat) has a new mayor who apparently errs on the side of religion and has slapped some big costs on the bar owner, so he's not sure if he will be there still in April - which will be a shame (his rent has increased by about 500%).

If he's been forced to move on, I'll look to make alternative arrangements and find an alternative location for camping/accomodation. We wont know for sure until the new year, so I'll post again at that point.

As for sleeping on deck - yep, its a stupid idea that you'd only ever do once. I think Expat did it twice :augie. The dormitories aren't bad and even cheaper than a cabin - clean bathrooms and showers, good sized lockers for your kit and as you would expect small beds - 6 crammed into a "room" - which are pre-allocated. If you are a light sleeper, need space, or get woken up by snorers, the dorm is not for you.
