Garden / House design to scale software for iPad & Windows ?

Before I go downloading app after app, any guys or gals here use an app or windoze software to do garden / house design to scale ?

I can use Visio - but wondered if there was other software that would be better / easier ?

Ideally needs to work on IPad and Windows

Initially just doing the front and rear gardens.
