Garmin 2610 Question

Folks

I have just bought one of those great bundle offers from GPS Warehouse and have just fitted all the kit and loaded the CD etc, but I have one quick question....

The rubber cover for the USB port on the rear of the unit doesn't want to stay in no matter what I do. I rode home last night and it started to rain as I pulled onto my street and when I got off the bike the cover was blowing in the breeze (well, gale ).

Will this effect the unit? I think it may if it starts getting used in the rain...

And has anyone else had this problem?

I've tried to search the forum for the answer, but after the 25th page of Garmin related threads i'm getting a bit tired

Your help would be appreciated, and yes I know it is two questions but the january sales are on....

I think it'll only affect the USB bits you can see, and not the internals of the GPS.

Mine is not the best fit, although it doesn't exactly flap around. I have used it for >10,000 miles on the bikes and never had a problem with the liquid sunshine we thrive on out here.

Just stick some tape over it (and over the rubber cover) when you want to use it on the bike.

IIRC, the connector block goes some way to hold it in.

9k miles, 8.5k in the pishing rain, no problems

OK, it needs to come in a sit near a radiator after a particularly long/wet trip to clear the screen, but it's a small inconvenience as it does everything I need of it perfectly.

PanEuropean reckons its there purely to stop dust etc getting in and makes no difference to it being waterproof. In fact, I'm pretty sure he posted a photo showing that he'd removed his rubber flap altogether.

And if its good enough for PanEuropean - its good enough for me.

as the unit is supposed to be waterproof submerged, i think the rubber flap does very little in that regard.

my own unit is much the same & has not suffered any water ingress AFAIK.

I thought I might be a bit worried about nothing.

Didn't realise it was waterproof completely submerged though! Must read those instructions more thorough, yes I did what all blokes do and read as little as possible before switching it on and muddling through it!!

Its a top piece of kit though, i'm well chuffed
