 Just a quick one, how much should i be paying for a 2610 and how good are they ? Are there any real differences to the navigator 2 ??

Can't tell you the answer to the first, since I skipped that generation of GPS - but there are millions of happy owners.
The NavII has the some function duplicated on buttons on the cradle.
It has BMW dealers pre-loaded, but these will be rather out of date now.
It has a compass function, an allegedly different petrol-resistant plastic casing and a more anti-relefective display.
Nothing worth paying extra for - 25 quid max.

:mmmm
I got mine from here, http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod3267.html seem to be the cheapest at the moment. I've never used a Navigator so can't help on that one.

Cheers

Chris

Hi chris , i know this might sound thick but does the 2610 that you got from the shop above come with europe , and how do they compare to todays sat navs for calculation speed ?:mmmm

Hi the 2610 comes with version 8 europe maps, version 9 not the nt version due out later this month, if you buy now you will get a free upgrade.

this is my first gps unit, can not answer the speed, only know i have taken wrong turns and its responds very quickly.

V9 upgrade

So lets get this straight in my head

If I buy a new 2610 (from GPSW) which comes with City Navigator, when I register it with Garmin, I will get a free upgrade to V9

Sounds to good to be true!!!!

sounds too good to be true.... but most certainly is true...

My first GPS came with City Select V6, had free upgrade to V7 with no problems, my GPS got stolen so i've bought the 2610, with City Navigator 8 and will be looking forward to my free upgrade to V9 sometime this month i hope :thumb2

Reeeeesult.. thank you Garmin :beerjug:

when you say free ugrade do you mean an actual disk or downloading the new bits from v9 to v8 mapsource

The man from Garmin told me the disc would be delivered as soon as it's available. If I'd wanted the NT (?) version, he would have given me a copy there and then (Autosport show).

They hand out the disks to all who ask though doing it online via myGarmin you'll need to enter the serial number of your unit for them to establish the version you need. Having said that you can't use it on your unit without an unlock code which will only be issued FOC if you purchased on or after 1st Sept 2006. Some, who purchased prior to this date, have gotten away with holding off registering until recently although rumour has it that Garmin are now asking for dated proof of purchase in most instances.

NAV11s came with a 2gb CF card where as the wifes 2610 only had a 512mb.
The NAV11 is suposed to be an upgarded and tweaked version of the 2610, the nav11 mount does not work with a 2610 so there definatley some internal differences. Plus the nav11 is fuel as well as water proof.
But then I honestly cant say I have noticed any difference in the performance once you stick the 2GB card in. The extra buttons the bmw cradle gives do come in handy. But I am still in 2 minds if they are worth the extra price.
One thing is the nav11 only comes with the BMW power lead and cradle. You dont get the remote speaker power lead that comes with the 2610 so you have to wire it up to your autocom/starcom if you want to hear the voice directions.
I guess if you can pick a nav11 up for the right price go for it, otherwise a £170 2610 is a much better use of beer tokens.
