Garmin 2650 queries..

I've finally got around to mounting my 2650 onto my trail bike, however, mapsource doesn't seem to show most of the byways.

Does the 2650 have the facility to log new tracks as you ride them, so they can then be uploaded onto the PC afterwards?

It would also allow me to put my favorite rides onto the PC while riding the bike, instead of sitting in front of the PC for several hours.

I've spent most of this morning playing with the GPS and am still none the wiser...

As far as I know, the 2650 is like the 2610 or 2620 but with a dead-reckoning facility when installed in a car. If this is the case, then the best you can do is log about a days worth of riding, download it to Mapsource on your laptop/PC at the end of the day, and do the same tomorrow. All your tracks can then be saved to a single .gdb file permanently. Like below for example. I don't believe you can convert tracks to routes to be followed at a later date, so you couldn't retrace an offroad track using the GPS.

According to the Garmin spec sheet, the 2650 can record 2000 track points. So you should be able to download the tracks into Mapsource. Edit out the track points you don't want in your route, save the result as a .gdb file. Get a copy of Wingdb3.1 from here http://www.sackman.info/ and use option 6 to convert into a route. Maybe put a waypoint at the beginning of the route so you can navigate on tarmac to the start.

Of course, I don't actually have a 2650 to try this on so it might be a load of b*ll*x...................

Or you could.......

Maybe get hold of a copy of MemoryMap or Quo which use OS mapping and plot your routes with them. Export onto Mapsource using a .gpx file and then upload into your 2650.................
