I have this model i have used in various cars and bikes but increasingly infrequently as more recent cars have built in units. Planing European trip this summer, France, Switzerland, Spain and want to update the maps. Seems from the Garmin site that this is goingt o cost me £60 for a one off or £100 for life. Can this possibly be correct as i see whole new units being sold for little more! Is there no 'free' map update somewhere?

I rang Garmin this morning to check on the update price for my 2610 and yes it`s £60. The GPS`s that are going for not much more wouldn`t last long on a bike though, for a kick off they`re not waterproof! I`m still unsure about stumping up £60 or plugging on with CN7 thats 4 years old :augie

you will be fine as it is.
i have 2009 mapping on my 2820 and loads of roads/junctions are not on there.
so why worry.
PS
i have a 2610 with v6 mapping and would use that with no worry's :thumb

Yes your right about the cheaper ones not being waterproof etc. Just spoke to MNC and they have a 2820 for £300 and confirm that many people choose to replace rather than upgrade maps. He reckons the upgrade for a Porshce is £600 and even a BM Car is £450. Explains why you see external units perched precariously on expensive car dash boards!

When I was looking for my 2610 an in car gps was £2k :eek
Anyway I`ve stumped up the £60 for an upgrade to CN9 and saved £240. What do I need bluetooth and a mp3 player in a GPS for anyway :nenau
