Of late, when I switch the unit on it can take an age to get going. Sometimes it keeps cycling through the "Loading Maps" message five or six times before it seems to "take". Once going, the unit performs normally.

This behaviour is not constant - sometimes, it starts up with no fuss.

Any ideas anyone?

IIRC Isn't the 2820 the version with the hard-disk drive which Garmin stated was not for motorcycle use due to the vibration affecting/damaging the drive?

It may be that the drive is damaged and it is struggling to boot because of that?

I would try and reload the 2820 firmware via Garmin Webupdater. If Webupdater does not want to play, then download directly from the web-site onto your PC and try from there.
I use a 2820 as well - it broke 2 weeks into ownership and its replacement has been going strong for the last 2 to 3 years.

Red1 and Bemmerboy,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the firmware refresh.
