could anyone tell me if it is possible to load maps on to this unit in the past i have just used it for lat long navigation at sea

the GPS 12 or 12 xl cannot be uploaded with maps
just your waypoints , good little unit though

I used the GPS12 for nearly eleven years. Its a great basic GPS and i thought of the question of uploading maps, but no I upgraded to the 60CS.
GPS12 never once let me down.

Hi the way I used the GPS 12 was I used Auto-route to do the route and every time you need to turn onto an other road or want to know which exit to take off roundabout I put a waypoint in. I got the long/lat by zooming up to max in auto route and using the location sensor I used different names for the way points each day and made a route out for each day. When naming the waypoints at the end of the name I would put TL for turn left or TR for right and 3E for 3rd exit etc the first day of the tour all waypoints started with A and were numbered from 01 to whatever number so if I needed to turn right on my first turn the waypoint would read A01 TR. If you were doing a big euro tour it was a bit tedious putting the data in but hey I had all winter to do it and it worked well for me for three tours round the alps before moving on to the next generation GPS.
