Garmin GTM 12

works fine in around london....a do alot of miles on the bike around london - if i have the panniers fully loaded with tools i like to avoid the traffic / filtering etc.

tells me exactly the state of the traffic on my route (garmin 2820) and auto. avoids it.

good set up for me- worth every penny of the £69 i paid....

(transfers to car in seconds also- obviously of even more use there).

bought mine here-
http://www.blokesstuff.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=1284#accessories
along with sat nav / cradle / etc. etc. - came very quickly - no hassle
:)

...but is it worth £45 as IIRC there has been issues with the coverage in the UK? Also, how good is it in Europe?
John, take a look at my recent experiences in this thread. I think that things have improved with v3.90 of the firmware. I still wouldn't say that it's 100% reliable in the UK, but it's better than nothing. Others say that it's top notch elsewhere in Europe, but I can't confirm or deny that.

Is it worth £45? Hard to say. If you live/drive in an area with good coverage and frequent traffic snarl ups then probably yes. Otherwise it's just another gadget :)

Hi John

My wife has this in conjunction with a Nuvi 660 in her car.

Seems to work okay up here in Scotland, but coverage is confined to motorways & trunk roads:

Here's quite a good resource for TMC in Europe:

http://www.tmcforum.com/en/about_tmc/tmc_services_today/

But we've yet to try it outside the UK ourselves.

It's probably worth the £45.00 advertised but not the RRP of £149.95......?

Cheers

Some good information on those sites :thumb2

I do wonder if they've dropped a 1 from the front of their price :blast

I'd guess they only show the main roads as that's the main traffic routes cars etc use. On a bike we're not as badly affected, and on "B" roads the main delays are from Farmer Giles going off to the pub / coming home from it / locals in 20 year old cars chugging along at 20 mph as they're not in a rush :nono

Probably more a function of supply and demand. They were readily available at £75 a pop at Christmas time - I'd never have been given one as a prezzie if it had been £149.95 :augie

Have just....

Purchased a GTM 12, so how have you fitted the aeriel........at the moment I have mine on the screen then to my GPS with basically a loose wire from screen to GPS then loosely attached to handle bars.....:D

Haven't used it on the bike yet :o Seems to work best near the major conurbations in my limited experience with it. Typically get the message "traffic ahead" just as you can see the brake lights coming on on the motorway :(

My experience of the GTM 12 has been pretty patchy to say the least. I use it in the car and truck and out of an average 10 hour day travelling around south of the UK, about 70% of the time, it just doesn't pick up a signal. :spitfire

On the other hand, travelling over the other side of the Channel, its worked superbly. Why this is, I don't know, but in my own experience, its pretty frustrating in the UK.

My understanding from having read posts on other forums is that it's due to the very weak signal for TMC broadcasts that are allowed/used in the UK. Ironic, really, that one of the most densely populated parts of northern Europe is the place where congestion-beating technology is hamstrung to the point of being largely ineffective. Or maybe it's not when one considers other agendas such as road-pricing
