Garmin iQue

I`ve had a close look at one but its lack of waterproofness lets it down for me. I`m not sure how rugged it is, it did`nt feel particularly solid and mounting it would be difficult. I believe its marketed with 4 wheelers in mind. I think operating it with gloves on would be tricky so I bought an SPIII

Mounting isn't really a problem, neither is waterproofing it...Otter Box makes an Armor 3600 case that the iQue fits in and it makes the thing a tank - Mounts using a RAM mount which they have made a mounting attachment for plus with their cord pass thru bit you can have it be bike powered and use an external antenna...I ordered one this week and can wait to get it mounted in the box on the GS...

I looked at the iQue but decided against as it uses the the City group of maps from Garmin. Strange though it uses City Navigator Australia and not Metro.

I assume that this restriction is due to memory capability within the iQue as City Navigator Australia is not that large.

Never really compared the Select series vs the City Navigator but I assume that there is less detail.

As far as I'm aware the "City Navigator" is for units with colour displays. "City Select" is for black & white units. Other than that the detail is the same.

Australian maps;

City Navigator is the only auto-routing product for Oz. It is 44MB

There is no City Select

Metroguide has better rural coverage but does not auto-route (on either the GPSr or PC). It is 48MB

PS We have heard rumours that there will be a new version of City Navigator Australia out in February. Apparently this is to enable the 2610/iQue to search faster on addresses/POI. We are also hoping that it will include the additional rural data that is in MGA.

Hi Guys

I have just bought an Ique due to the lower cost and replaceable base maps. So far (using it in a car in the USA) it has been very good. Much quicker route calculation than my Streetpilot.

I was going to get the waterproof housing from Otterbox but I also needed the City Select software for Europe. Ended up getting a Garmin V with software cheaper than the software alone for the UK so it looks like the V is for the bike and the Ique is for the car or other forms of travelling.

City Select on the Ique is in colour including different colour schemes for day and night. I am not sure what the difference in the level of detail is between City Select and the Streetpilot software but City Select does me fine at this stage.
