Picked up a Garmin Nuvi 54 LM today from Halfords for a car, but it does not support custom routes.
I basically want a 5ins. screen, euro mapping, bluetooth and routes i can send to the device.
Anybody know which model i should be getting?

I did ask the bod in Halfords and he said the nuvi 54 would do what i wanted.
I will ask another tomorrow.

See Below this is a reply i got from Garmin when asking which of their units accept routes from a PC. This is well over a year old, so may be worth asking again.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

Dear Andrew Harrison,

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

I am happy to help please find below the devices that have the feature to take routes created from MapSource or basecamp and then sent over to the device. If the device has LMT , LM , LT or T on the end of the model numbers below will also be compatible. I am afraid that the device listed below are the only ones that are compatible with routes being sent over.

Zumo 660
Zumo 550
Nuvi 3790
Nuvi 3760
Nuvi 3710
Nuvi 2460
Nuvi 2440
Nuvi 1690
Nuvi 1490tv
Nuvi 1490
Nuvi 1440
Nuvi 1410

If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.
Alternatively you can search for a solution here: http://www.garmin.co.uk/support

Kind regards,

I got this message/link from Garmin Support:

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

As per your request i have attached below the article "How do i access routes transferred from the computer on my Nuvi"

http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={65814150-50b3-11dc-4ec8-000000000000}

This would suggest that a wider range of devices can accept routes created in Basecamp. But I have not yet tried it with my Nuvi 3400 series (a 3490LMT).

If you can find one the Nuvi 2595 certainly accepts routes from Basecamp but not Mapsource for some unknown reason. Whether you want to use Basecamp or not is another matter.

1410

I have just gone "backwards" and replaced my Garmin modern-ish 2455 (only accepts 10 custom routes) with an old 1410. Reason being that I like to plot my routes on Basecamp and transfer to the unit. The 2455 (like many others apparently) only routes you to the next waypoint, then directs you to the next waypoint etc.etc. This is fine when you actually pass the waypoint, but should you miss one or if you have placed one by the side of the road or even on the wrong side of the road it will not continue your route and tries to send you back. I have tried various options and workarounds but have given up.

The older 1410 (which accepts/imports up to 100 custom routes) ignores the fact that you have missed a waypoint and lets you carry on. £35 ebay well spent. :beerjug: not waterproof but at that price who cares!!
