last w/e i went to south wales [ pembrey] via the midlands got to merthyr tydfil; and the unit decided to go into poor satellite reception shortly afterwards it shut down completly ''wtf'' anyone else had simmilar experience .by the way got back over the severn bridge and the sat nav was fine, im using it on a 1200 gs

Try a software update if not possibly a hard reset and see if that does anything to help the problem. If not then it may just be down to bad coverage.

Last week my Nav II+ went into 'shivver' mode in a thunderstorm. No satellite reception and nothing except switching it on and off would work (touchscreen and all buttons had no effect).

After a short time it all worked again in the same location! :nenau

For what it's worth, I have ridden from the UK to Poland and then back to Switzerland during the last 72 hours, and I have noticed that all four GPSRs that I am using (a BMW Nav III, a Garmin 2820, a Garmin 496, and something else) have occasionally encountered a lot of difficulty getting an initial satellite fix.

My guess is that maybe one of the satellites has run out of gas, or the American military (the folks who run the satellite constellation) might be doing some kind of maintenance on it, or maybe there is some other factor (solar energy storm, whatever) that is causing the problem.

I quite doubt that the problems are with the GPS receivers... especially considering that all these receivers (and yours too, probably) were working just fine last week.

I had similar 'slow' satellite pick-up on Nav III all through northern Italy and central France last week and over this weekend. Each time I had a very clear view of the sky, so I guess it's a signal problem. Traveling companions had similar problems with their's and walkers in the mountains were moaning too.
