GSers I have just joint the community after buying a GS1200ADV which I building up slowly for my summer trip to Italy. The site is great with tons of good advice.

Would appreciate some advice on how to wire my Garmin Nuvi GPS on the bike. I have used a RAM type mount to fix it into place, which is GREAT and highly recommend it. I can send you sample pic if you want. Then tried to use the already installed spare BMW type plug on the left side of the clocks and bought the lighter plug adaptor, but when I use that connection it ends up into a bulky and messy solution with cables all over, while it also give some interference in my autocom…with a bzzzzz sound in my helmet!

Any advice of where I can have a fixed power cable fitted permanently on the bike from the battery and run up to the GPS ? :nenau

I wired mine directly to the battery. (my 2820 cable has a fuse) I like to mess with my GPS while my bike is parked, and won't leave it on the bike over night, so danger of killing the battery is minimal.

Quick fix

Take the connection from the GPS straight along the tank side panels (not under the tank) direct to the battery. That should sort it. The axe plug is for the girls leg shavers and is full of noise. :blast Just ensure you turn it off after use!
Happy U-turns :thumb2

Guys many thanks for replies, which are a solution indded and my girlfriend will be happy to be able to use her "epilady" for her legs via the aux plug!!!

I just came accross the Dutch who appears to be able to offer neat custom solutions connected to the cunbus of the bike.

Have a look at

My GPS is a Nuvi and I will check if he can adapt my USB type cable to fit the canbus of the bike.
Will keep you posted with any reply I get!
Cheers!:beerjug:

Can't be sure about the Nuvi, but the earlier Garmin's (2610 etc.) required a filter on the GPS audio lead if used with an Autocom. It might have nothing at all to do with your noise problem, but I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks Wizard.
Where can I get such a filter. I think I have to give it a try as the Dutch was not very helful.:type

Autocom themselves do them. If you bought your gear from the local dealer, give them a shout, otherwise try www.autocom.co.uk
They should be able to tell you if the Nuvi needs one as well.

Also, have a look at Maplins. I used one out of Radio Shack... or whatever they are called in North America now... it looks like a something the size of a "c" battery, with two stereo connectors coming out each end. You only need to use one side if you are not hooking up the mike.

Just sent an eamil to autocom to see if they can send me the audio cable with the noise daming filter...keep you posted and once I am done will send post some photos, as Garmin Nuvi is not common on a GSA,....but am very happy with it so far....2000km that is.
