You can plug em straight in to a car cigarette lighter socket. On the bike best use a 0.5amp in line fuse.

But surely there's a 12v->5v transformer in the doodah that you plug into the car??

Snoopy.....you can get a multi voltage transformer plug from Maplins for a tenner......unless you're certain, I'd not risk it...it goes against everything we thought we knew about the power supply requirements

Hold on, read it again and have a think........
Input: 5 Vdc

Usage: 6 watts maximum @ 13.8 Vdc

The input to the unit is 5v....the 13.8 volts bit is the power consumption (6w) taken from a typical car/bike supply..(so you can work out fuse ratings and how long you can leave it on with ignition off etc) ..that doesn't mean you can run the Quest on 12v!!!!!

It'll go fizz bang phutt ;)

Bill, this is on the page linked above:-
-------------------
Power
Input: 5 Vdc

Usage: 6 watts maximum @ 13.8 Vdc

Battery: Rechargeable lithium-ion

Battery Life: Up to 20 hours

--------------------
It runs on 5v, and the PSU/Speaker can drag 6 watts at 13.8v. As we already knew.

is it not just wire direct to ign or battery ie 12 volts from bike battery when using bare wire kit ther is no power reducer

Please feel free to try it and let us know how you get on ;)

Honest, it needs 5v, the regulator is in the speaker unit for the car, for the hard of reading. ram/tt/etc. all make inline regs for bike use.
