My SPIII won't read the memory card. The GPSR will locate sats and function on the base map but won't read from the card. The mapsource info downloaded to the card OK (i think) and all the software is installed, any ideas :nenau
Performed the mapsource update from garmins website to run the unlock wizard, are there any other updates :nenau

Take the card out, switch the SP3 on. Switch it off. Take the card out and check that it has the data in it, if it has, put the card back in and try again.

I've checked the Garmin FAQs and the procedure John describes above is the recommended course of action.....

The only way that Garmin detail for checking the card has data on it.....

....it is to check the data on the second boot up screen of the SPIII

Failing all that, it's time to ring Garmin on 0808 2380000 (freephone)

Bummer

Thanks chaps still no joy, looks like its going back. Hope it's not another three week wait

What have you downloaded to the card? :nenau

Don't forget that the card only holds the maps, so are you trying to find waypoints and routes, which should have been sent to the unit via the USB cable.

I had the same thing happen to mine, it would not read either of my 2 cards. I spoke to Garmin and they said it could be repaired for £150 so I took it apart and resoldered the card contacts which are easy to get to. It works fine now, but I would only try this if you are OK with a bit of soldering with a small tip.

But i would also warn you that you would loose any warranty with it if you took it apart and they found out. :nono

So buy a "compatible" for about £40 if you want to "practise" your soldering skills. :mmmm

If it had still been in warranty I would not have needed to take it apart in the first place as Garmin would not have quoted £150
