Garmin StreetPilot III

Am not sure if this should be here or in "For Sale & Wanted", my GPS is well used and the front panel glass is getting very badly marked and I wish to replace it, Garmin won't sell me the parts but will replace it for £160, so if anybody out there has a totally useless StreetPilot III with a good front panel I am willing to purchase from you at a fair price.

When you say 'will replace it', do you mean replace the entire GPSR, or just replace the screen cover (which is an integral part of the front cover assembly)? The price you quoted seems kind of high for just replacing a front cover. I had the front cover on my SP III replaced by Garmin some years ago, and it cost a lot less than that. I took it to my local avionics dealer (here in CH), and they sent it into Garmin, so it's not like I was treated any differently than anyone else would be.

I wonder if the folks at Garmin misunderstood your request?

If you want to find a replacement cover on your own, be aware that there are also some older aviation model GPSRs that are the same size / form factor as the SP III - you might be able to find one of those as a donor unit, the aviation crowd turns over their equipment a bit faster than the automotive crowd does.

Thanks for your reply.

Phoned Garmin again and yes £160 is the amount to replace just the front cover, the bloke also told me that is now the standard charge for any work being done, wether he meant just for the StreetPilot or all Garmin products, did not ask.....

of my search, got my hands on a on a new StreetPilot III case today, so now my GPS looks like a brand new one...and it was free....
