My Zumo has had a problem with charging (again) and the touch screen has gon a bit out of sinc:pullface

Have emailed Garmin for RMA code so it can be reapired.

Question is as it is an out of waranty repair has anyone had experince of the service and cost (is it cheaper to buy a new one?)

Thanks

The out of warranty repair is in fact an exchange service. You return your GPS and get a factory refurb (as good as new) complete with current mapping and all original accessories in the box. Worth just sending just your the GPS itself back, that way you get a spare bike mount etc.

That's the way it's been for quite a few years anyway, I assume that they still operate in the same way.

A 90 day warranty is included.

Remember to remove any SD card and download any tracks, custom waypoints etc. using Mapsource as I don't think that they'll transfer these over to the replacement.

In the US this service for the Zumo 550 costs $150, not sure how much it costs in the UK as that info isn't on the UK website. You'll have to give them a ring to confirm and get an RMA number

In the UK it costs £108 and you can get your old unit back with a new serial number, I did! But sent it Monday afternoon, courier banging on the door 7.30am Wednesday morning, all way points, routes and logs missing.........(couldn't turn it on to retrieve them) but a properly working unit that's done another 30k miles since! Good service I thought!

cheers,
