Hello

Apologies if this is a thick question, but my friend and I are planning a trip on his new Garmin Zumo. We have downloaded a route on to it from Wikiloc, and when we plug it in and launch basecamp it shows as being in the devices internal storage, and we have saved it in my collection on Basecamp, but when we unplug the device and turn it on we can't find the route on the device??

The route doesn't start from where we are starting from, so do we need to ride onto the route and it will just pick it up?

He has only just got it and it is the first time we have used it. Was meant to be easier than taping directions to the tank but not sure now!

Any help would e much appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

When you turned on the Zumo it should have prompted along the lines of "new data found, do you want to import it" to which you needed to say yes.

What you can do, however, is go into the "user data" menu and choose the import option, then import the route.

When you've done that you should be able to click the "where to?" menu option and choose custom routes. Once you hit go it will prompt you with "do you want to navigate to the start of the route?". If you say yes then it will navigate you there, but if you say no you'll have to find your way to the start by yourself but once you enter any point on the route it will pickup from there.

You should note that, however, if you haven't included enough "shaping points" in your route to force it to go the way you want the Zumo will recalculate the route and may come up with a different way of visiting all your points that you plotted on Basecamp. This is especially so if your routing preferences (avoidances) don't match up between the Zumo itself and the settings in Basecamp. I always plot my routes in Basecamp with far more way points than needed. This means that when the Zumo recalculates the route it's left with little choice than to go the way I intended. Basecamp can be frustrating at first but a little perseverance will pay off and you'll soon get used to it. There's loads of tips and tutorials on http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?action=forum.

Hope that helps,
Dae.
