hello gazza,

nice paint job. black is the business.

as i am still waiting for my red 12 and sitting here after reading your thread, LOOKS BALANCED NOW whether to buy an extra set of cover and beak and have them sprayed black so that eventually i will have two sets of colours to choose from; red and black to mount on the gs according to one's mood on the day.

and since according to you that it only takes about 5-10 minutes to unscrew it would seem a good idea to have this option like the SMART car colour panels, wouldn't you all agree?

anyone know the prices for an extra set cover and beak?

lastly, how about the legal side of things such as the v5 registration document that indicates the original manufacturer's colour of the vehicle, are we allowed to 'tamper' with the colour at anytime, any day without notifying the DVLA?
anyone have any ideas on this legal issue?

You certainly have to notify the DVLA if you change the colour of a vehicle.

However, what colour IS an R1200GS? The actual coloured bits we are talking about are a small part of the overall bike. You could argue that the colour of the seat / sidepanels is the "predominant" colour - perhaps.

What does the V5 state the colour is currently?

My colour of my currenty bike is Mica Black which is more purple that it is black - depending on what kind of light it is viewed under. I do believe the V5 simply states "BLACK" as the colour.

One of my past bikes was red and black and the V5 stated "RED/BLACK" as the colour. I suspect the GS's V5 is the same.

As I'am off to Spain, Andorra and France shortly I changed mine on the V5 from Red to Black. Don't want to give customs or foreign police any reason to nick me. But you are right even on a Red or Yellow bike the predominate colour is Black.

Just checked my 1200gs V5 doc. It lists only one colour, in my case blue.

I guess I can do what I like with the side panels then
