Clinging to reality by a finger tip.
Would someone please tell me the dia of the bolts that hold the gearbox onto the clutch housing. 6 or 8mm seems likely.

I need to make [chop the heads off a couple of bolts] some guides pins to slide the gearbox back on.

Thanks.

Russ.

You will find that there are already two dowls on the back of the engine casing to help get it right, you have'nt got to cut any bolts:confused:

As Andy said no need to cut bolts as the feckni dowlpins will give you enough grieve to get the thing back. Easiest way as told to me by Steptoe

A. Put the gearbox on a trolley jack and lift untill the input shaft is centralised with the cluch & pressure plate. Slowly slide it forward and if at this point you have not put the pushrod back do so and take care not to bend it.

B. Preferrably two people one to move the gearbox ever so slightly forward untill the input shaft and pushrod is starting to move into the clutchplate splines. Slowly push it forward untill you can tighten the top two gearbox bolts pulling the box in as you go along. Take care not to x-thread these bolts.

This took us about 10 minutes the 3rd time around as we did some stupid things the previous rounds before this. All I can say is do line your clutch & pressure plate up when you tighten the bolts if you took it out.

There is some nice picccies and instructions on this thread..
