I was riding home tonight and started to get an unpleasant vibration near the footpegs on overrun. It quickly got worse to such an extent that I got the bike recovered home.

The bike seems to be alright running slowly on the centre-stand in 1st or 2nd gear. Is there anything I can check without having to split the bike? I am desparetly hoping it is a failed universal joint :(

I do think something has failed on the rear of the gearbox so I need a gearbox urgently for a 2004 model. Anyone have a spare lying around?

It is not the final drive as this was replaced by BMW about 2000 miles ago.

Thanks

Alex

Take bike to local BMW dealer. Shout LOUDLY that the drive they fitted but 2000 miles ago is fecked. They will investigate. Use their report to dictate your next course of action, up to and maybe even including your hunt for a new gear box.

Don't run the bike on the centre stand in gear, it doesn't do it much good. That being said, there was a bod who took it flat out thro' the gears up to sixth, using just that metod.......Or so he claimed. Quite how you replicated the over run sensation on the centre stand can only be imagined.

Good news - not the gearbox!

The driveshaft has failed at the rear UJ. In fact they are no longer connected amazing that it was still running.

Now need another driveshaft....
