NOW I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN AND IS A LOT OF TALK ABOUT CHANGING THE GEARBOX OIL ON AN 1150, BUT THE MANUAL I HAVE STATES REMOVING THE FILLER PLUG AND THE LEVEL PLUG, SO WHAT IS THE THIRD PLUG AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GEARBOX FOR, OR IS THAT THE DRAIN AND THE MANUAL IS INCORRECT? IT SITS BELOW THE FILL AND LEVEL PLUGS. ANY IDEAS OR AM I HAVING A BLOND MOMENT.

Umm an R1150 ... if you look between the capitals.

Bad form seefour old chap. Better in lower case.

As for yer oil filling- I don't know as I don't have an oilhead.

Not sure about 3rd plug underneath, but drain plug is up a passage on the side, and dribbles out onto the exhaust if I rememebr correct.

Thanks Frank - didn't see it. Late at night, long day - it looked like one long hyragliphic (?) to me :D :eek

oh dear :o

edit: my dim post removed. looks like i'm having humble pie for brekkie :D

still can't really see what the problem is, unless the "third plug" you refer to is part of the gearbox mechanism.

all looks labled correctly here:

Assuming you mean the larger plug it needs abut a 17mm hex key to remove it, then this is the magnetic drain plug! not well documented but you can have a nice noisy gearbox, drain the oil in the normal manner and think oh it must be fine cos theres no bits of metal in the oil hmmm. crafty buggers have put the magnet on the plug in the bottom that you would not normally remove, so you can have loads of bits in there and never find them.

Nice one Artman, would know that there would be somebody in the know, so whats wrong with using this plug to drain the gearbox instead of the proposed plug stated in the manual.
