Well I came to do the 20k service and no problems with spark plugs/ air filter/ gear box levels/ rear diff etc all as per servicing schedule and tickety Boo

BUT

With the requisit oil filter spanner

NO WAY WAS IT GOING TO SHIFT:nenau:blast

In fact it was spinning on the oil filter and not going to budge:eek:

So because the oil filter is up a 'dead hole' I next tried the old bodge a screw driver into the casing and knock/ twist it off

NO WAY:tears

Now with oil all over the floor mat and lots of swearing a brain wave arrived:)

I took the oil filter removal tool and drilled two small holes, thats one either side of the central large nut.

fixed the tool in place and screwed two small self tappers up the freshly drilled holes and then just wound the filter off in the normal way.:bow

So if you have a stuck oil filter, start as I finished and its VERY EASY:thumb2

Good luck

:clap

Jolly good show, it's that kind of lateral thinking that won us the war and kept the sausage munchers at bay.

Carry on men.......

Good tip. Another one, curtesy of steptoe is to line the tool with emery cloth(sandpaper) and tap it on I have never used either but often wonder how tight it should be. I havent got a torq wrench and always worry about either it being not tight enough or stripping a thread. Anyone ever stripped one?

Yeap I tried the emery paper as well but the tool kept slipping but the self tappers worked first time.

I did find the oil filter I was removing was a pattern (PUTOLINE) item and the oil filter tool was a far better fit on the NEW filter ( Genuine BMW part) when I fitted it

Replacing the new oil filter with the tool was no problem

Heres to next years struggle!:thumb

torq setting for the filter on the1100g.s. is 11nm invest in a torq wrench:rtfm

Yeh I had that problem!

Some numpty saved £2.50 and got rid of it before they screwed it up!

Hi Flo filter Shite! as advertised on e bay You wouldn.t believe what I tried with this!

Same as you screws etc and ended up welding that big dod of steel in there and using 18" stiltsens it still went with a crack!

I owe you a pint Magwa - went through the same process myself today, two days before I need the bike for a trip.

Luckily, I'd read this thread yesterday otherwise think I'd still be stuck in the garage trying to chisel the bastard filter out!

Cheers, Ross.

Motobins pattern filters are smaller they supply a special tool with these to remove it.
