At risk of howls of derision I would like to mention the possibility of getting bikes out to us in Austria without riding all the way. We have arrangements with two companies, one in England and one in Ireland. Both will collect the bikes and kit, bring them in a van direct to us. All you need do is bring hand luggage on a cattle class flight to either Salzburg or Klagenfurt, we will collect, bring you to our place.

We have found that there are lots of people who,for whatever reason, can only get away for a few days. Two days riding here, two days back cuts into the time available for riding our fantastic roads.

Costs are reasonable when you take into account costs of Ferry, fuel, overnight stays, tyre wear etc. Obviously more bikes means a better price so the service is especially interesting to groups.

You can find the links on our website http://www.hochalmspitze.com/contact-faq/how-to-get-here/

If you are thinking of coming please check our availability as we are filling up fast!

It is not a daft suggestion.

I have met several bods from Ireland / north Jockland, who do exactly that. Some used the BuMW motorcycle hire offered by partner hotels. A cheap flight / taxi / pick-up / one day car hire from the airport.... job done.

Sounds interesting being able to minimise travel time on the boring stuff - anyone had experience of the company they recommend (Bike movers uk) or have an idea cost wise?

Don't forget the Irish connection

We mention two companies on our site this one and Overlanders.ie who also pick up bikes in the UK.

I should point out that we have no connection with either companies and have no commercial interest in people using either- other than more of you might come for longer of course!

I am sorted this year as need to stop off in France and Germany on way to the Alps, but would be very interested the following year when time is tight - getting married so that will take most of my Holiday up - Stag do in Austria maybe???

I think you have missed the point

You can hire bikes here too, links on our website http://www.hochalmspitze.com/hotel-restaurant/partners/

The point was some people like to have their own bikes. Some are on a tour staying in several place for instance. For lots of reasons people want their own bike and their own kit. We are trying to offer as many ways as possible for people to get here.

And some people might like to try somewhere new!

Any feedback from those of you who enquire with either of the companies we mention would be very helpfull

When you have tight time restraints, this idea sounds appealing. If nothing else for potentially eliminating the long slog back on motorways to the UK.

Of the numerous times I've ridden to and from Europe and further, the last blast through France, around the M25, up the M1 and M6 to get home is always depressing. After all the spectacular roads and scenery around the alps and beyond, those last few hundred miles returning is no pleasure.

It would be very helpful to have an approximate idea of the transportation costs, for instance from the Midlands to Austria, so people can make an informed decision and consider it further.

Why no price

I'll second that, when you have done it a few times you just want to get to the fun roads, or home again once it's all over. As for the M25, well all I can say is after 3 years living here where the locals think a traffic jam is when there are two cars in front of you at a junction, the horrors of the M25 are a faded memory.

I didn't put any indication as to price as it will vary according to number of bikes, where they are collected from as well as timings. both of the companies we list have planned runs to this area, it's likely to be cheaper if you can fit in with these. Best thing is to ring them with your requirements and see what quotes you get. I would be interested to have your feedback from any such enquiries.
