Getting old?

This time last week I was cruising along the coast near Kennedy Space Centre in 85 degree heat on a Harley Electra Glide Classsic.:)

I started looking on ebay and dealers sites for one to buy when I got home. I even arranged a few visits for the drive home.

Unfortunately, when we landed, everywhere was covered in thick snow and it was freezing. The Harley dream of cruising in the sun didn't quite seem the same in these conditions.:(

Called into Riders of Bristol to see nice CVO Glide. 2007 model, 15,000 miles and a bargain at only £18,499.:eek::eek: How much! For a six year old second hand bike. The salesman gave me a coffee to bring me round and explained that the new model alongside it was £28,000:eek:
I knew Harleys were not cheap but feck me, I don't think I'll be spending £28k or even £18k on one.

My mate in Jersey has a 2011 Ultra Glide Limited on offer at £15k with only 4,000 miles and as new condition with "pipes, air filter and injection done". I might have to fly back to Jersey in next month to check it out.:)

The Harley dealers in Florida all suggested buying a post 2009 model as these have better frames etc.

What is the opinion of the CVO special editions? Are they just stupidly overpriced or are they worth the extra?

A good quality custom house will take a decent Glide and a few grand, then return you a unique bike to your specification. Go to any HOG rally and you can park your £28,000 CVO next to loads of identical bikes.

Your money your choice :nenau

Oh dear. I have to face facts. The sands of time are moving on & life is clearly catching up on me.

Not only do I now own a BMW motorcycle (something I would have sworn would NEVER happen 10 years ago) but I had half an hour to kill yesterday so wandered into our local Harley showroom.

Big mistake. Much to my utter surprise & huge embarassement I stood there & drooled. And not at any specific model - all of them.
The sales guy was smashing as well - urging me to come back & take 1,2,3 (as many as you wish Bill) for a test ride. And not just for the standard hour.
'I have 8 new demonstrators coming in & you'd be doing me a massive favour putting a few miles on them - I'd be grateful if you'd take them out for the full day tbh. Seriously - head to Whitby, or Norfolk, Scotland if you like.'

What a refreshing change that was.

Will I be going back? Unlikely tbh. Not yet anyway.

I can't afford one at the moment so don't want to waste the guys time, but as soon as I can (& have persuaded SWMBOthat I really need another bike in addition to the RT) I will be giving the guy a call & taking him up on his offer.

But honestly, I have no idea where this seismic shift in my tastes & attitudes has come from other than old age & Alzheimers.

Maybe Sons of Anarchy has a lot to answer for? :augie

I know exactly how you feel! A few years ago the thought of owning a HD would have apalled me.........untill saturday when I walked into the local showroom and instantly fell in lust with the Fatbob :drool

And I did actually ask him what they rode in SOA and he said he didn't know!

I love the FXDX, would love to pick up one of these, a 1999 - 2002 model ideally but cricket, they are going up in price!

But I also like the RK and the standard Glide too, not so much bling and chrome....... ! Mind you the penguins fat boy is pretty damn tasty, I just don't like apes.
