givi fitting instructions

hi
anybody got the fitting instructions for these givi gs1150 siderails

Hi panman,

Going off those four clamps, it looks like you need the type of rack that I had 'til recently on my 1100. It's what I might call the 'old type' of rack, that fixes along each side of the bike, one point to the sub frame just below the rider's seat, and one point to the rear, just below the pillion seat. It had a proper 'rack' to which the givi plate was fastened, not like the ones that bolt on to the standard bike rear carrier. A much better and stronger arrangement IMO. The rack is made of oval section tube, and those clamps fit around it, the fixing bolts going through the clamps and in to the studs that you've not shown on the other side of the carriers. The bar at the front of each carrier fixes on the pillion footpeg mounting.

My saying all that is fine, but I'm buggered if I can find another of those racks. Due to neglect on my part, the last one was rapidly becoming two tubes of Iron Oxide, and had to be retired. I've twice tried contacting Givi via their 'contact us' link on their site, but had no reply yet. Customer service? Hmmph!

If you manage to find such a rack, could you let me know where/which one? I have a feeling that one for one of the 'R' models might fit.

I'd put a picture of mine up, but I don't have any on the web.

Sorry I can't be of more help; maybe someone else knows better...?

Cheers,

Dave.

P.S. Be careful with those clamps; they're cast aluminium, and as I've discovered they can snap easily, such as if the bike falls over5 on to the pannier. And like the rack, you've got more chance of getting a ton of rocking horse sh1t than a replacement. But the big advantage of this set up is that the side frames stick out well from the side, and clear the exhaust. That enabled me to use two Givi Maxia boxes as side panniers, with another for the top box.
