A while ago I posted about my Givi V42 monokey topbox and the fact that although the lid was locking with the key, the button to take the thing off the rack wasn't locking.

I had some useful suggestions in helping to fix it but I didn't get around to looking at it until today...I'll need maximum carrying capacity over the next few weeks though (Vernatechs and topbox gives me over 175 litres so that should suffice ;) )

What I found when I dismantled the catch mechanism though has bothered me......I've fixed the problem with a self tapper and a bit of dremel work but I now know that if you have a Givi Monokey system, it's a piece of piss to take the box off the rack and I wouldn't like anyone to be under the illusion that their box is safe.

For obvious reasons I'm not going to go into exactly what the problem is here, but I'd recomend that if you have one, take the catch mechanism out (two phillips screws from inside the box....undo those and the whole mechanism slides out easily but watch out for the two springs in the bottom catch when you do)

Have a look at how the rack-release button is stopped by the mechanism and you'll see what the problem potentially is (Think knife and plastic) .

HTH someone.
