Just had my first weekend away on the GS 1150 & realize how small the system panniers are.
I have a full set of givi panniers & wondered how successful they are on the GS & how good & strong the fitting rails etc are.

Has anybody a picture showing them & the panniers fitted & do they stick out rediculously to miss the exhaust.

Thanks Ian

Hi Ian, as you have found out sideways opening plastic panniers are a bit restrictive :( Why not come along to to the East Anglian area meet this coming Thursday night and say hi. You will find every make of pannier available for your inspection. TT, Vern, Caja, and TW. :thumb

Hi mate I'll have to make one of your meets one of these nights after firstly finding out where they are :o .
I've been around GS's for a while now although never really studied them in great deatail as I've been a memeber of the bm club for about 15 years since my first R100RS but then moved onto VFR's for the last 8 years but still used to go camping etc with them mainly Yorkshire way.
I've just come back from the Easter get together with the Holland club near Eindhoven & there were several GS's there but none with givi's some with larger lids loads with ali boxes it's just that I have a good set of monakey givi's & thought it would be the cheeper option & besides the wife isn't to keen on the metal ones :)
Definately take you up on your offer before too long though

Ian, I bought givi tubular rack and use E360 panniers and E460 top box on 1150gs(when carrying tent etc on top rack, sometimes use 460 as pannier on non exhaust side. So far only scraped side of one car and that was on single track road (and he should have moved over a bit more!). No problem filtering through traffic as they don't seem to extend further than the width of the handlebars(if you want 100% confirmation of this and measurements I can let you know in a couple of days). As far as quality goes, finish not as good IMHO as some others but more than capable of carrying loads well above recommended limits and plastic coating keeps well if regularly sprayed with WD 40 or similar.

Hi thanks for the reply what a fantastic part of the country you live in .Stayed there a few years back on my trusty R100RS & camped beside the loche I guess where the ferries used to sail past .
I take it you fitted the 360 panniers leaving the gs exhaust as per standard dont suppose you'd have a photo would you with them fitted .I presume the original system rails are removed & the givi ones fitted in place of.
Any way thanks for the info :beerjug: Ian

Yep, BMW rails removed, standard exhaust in place. Grab rail needs removing if top box plate fitted. I'll see what I can do re a photo, though may be weekend before I get back to you.

I've got Givi boxes/top box on an Adv., I'll try and e-mail you a couple of pics. later today if I can find any. The distance between an E36 on the left and an E45 on the right is just short of 1000mm, i.e. around the same width as the 'bars. I can vouch for the fact that they are strong and waterproof, they will take the weight of a fully loaded Adventure with only minor scufing :spitfire
