OK, I'll pack in the fags for charity, IF, the other two loolaa's do too. And I won't be first back on 'em.

This was said by Daithi and fair play to him for that committment.
The other 2 loolaa's are Joxer and Aidan.
It started as a thread hijack.
So now it's a thread of its own.
I'm still good for €100 per man to a charity of their choice for 3 months off the smokes; de Crowe is with me in that he is matching the offer. Bin Riding [whose thread was hijacked] is also in as I recollect.

So lads it's time to be talking but above all it's time to be doing - that includes our esteemed moderator. Lets be having yis, lets be having yes to a fag free future.

You are dealing with a zealot on this topic, it's a stupit habit; the only one I know that makes bikes appear sensible.

Hey Guys well Done if you do It!!! I celebrated my third year off them on the 17th of this month!

By the Way Do you really want to know the secret of ending the addiction to cigs???

Number One you're NOT giving anything up!!

You're STOPPING Smoking!! Simple as that!! You're Just STOPPING smoking!!

Look at it as improving your health, your families health and if carefully managed your wealth too!

Number 2 IF you like a good hot curry?? That you may do now???? Under no circumstances order the same heat of a curry at the 4,5 or 6 week stage!!!
BE prepared for taste explosions like you've never known That includes Jalapeno chillies, I used to munch jars with no effect and eat the hottest curries you can imagine back when I was Smoking( back to em {curries and chillies I mean} again but took 6 months

Number 3, Stand Proud and Stand Tall When you announce to the world at large I have STOPPED smoking!

RAther than go on Perhaps it's better if you Go get Alan Carr's The Easy Way to stop Smoking for the rest of the instructions!

MNy Grumpy BArsteward phase lasted from the afternoon of the sunday when I quit to about 6 or 7 days later I was lucky BUt I went cold turkey from a 25gramme pack of golden virginia a day and 50 papers (Sometimes worse when stressed maybe a 50 pack in a day!!!)

Anyway Good Luck and Go For IT!!!

Simple way to quit smoking? :rob

Change your habits...if phone rings DON'T grab a fag, take fags out of packet and put into one of those little freezer bags - packet is designed to fit snugly in palm of hand, go to pub without a coat - you'll not want to go outside for your smoke....

little things like that - you're not fighting an addiction, you're breaking a habit :thumb

15 years this month :beerjug:

I used to smoke 30 a day until June 18th 1991. Managed to kick the habit then and so glad I'm free of it. I tried a few times before finally cracking it. There were about 5 occasions when I said this is it , I'm giving up and then throwing away lovely zippas into woods etc. Also tried aversion technique whereby I made myself sick ( overdosed) on fags smoking non stop until gagging. Motivation was that I could feel my chest getting a bit tight, and my paternal grandmother died of lung cancer age 56 or so. I didn't want to follow that route. Eventually using nicorette gum as a fall back I gave up. A lot of it is habitual, I made the change when starting a new job so wasn't in the fag break routine. I also avoided the pub for about 6 months as the fag seemed to be connected to the pint such that I couldn't have a pint without lighting up. I missed having something in my pocket which I could rely on. I used to have the occasional dream for about 2 yrears afterwards where I'd be smoking only to realise that I was off them and then thinkming about how the f--k am I going to get off them again.

Now I can't stand them, I do like the smell of raw tobacco in a reminiscent sort of way but no more cravings. It's easy once you get through the first month or so. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you can get away with one, I fell down a few times on that stumbling block. reducing them is also a bit of a waste. most tend to up the intake again at a later stage.

Good luck, you'll never look back once you get over the first month or so.Probably not a bad idea to change your routines though, I found that the smoking buddies were most likely to offer me one when I was desperate.

Guys,
I stopped in '82, best days work I ever did.
History will be puzzled as to why people did this smoking thing and why the governments let it go on, it really really is bad for you.
I even heard the term Smoker's Face, and it is sad but true. smokers age facially in a sad way
Remember, it's the ciggie that smokes, you are just the sucker!
Call this tough love, I do hope all get off the things asap.

BACK OFF . .

. . lay off, guys, they know, they know. It's a severe addiction. Don't depress your friends at this time of year, O.K.

Nae bother PJ, I actually gave thought to giving myself a head start last week by giving up early.
We've decided we are going to start on new Years Eve and the added incentive of the money for
charities can only help. I know I won't be saying this a week into the new year, but I'm looking
forward to not having to stand outside my own front door in the pissing rain just to fill my lungs
with tar. :cool

If this works, and I hope it will, ye will have done me one enormous favour, (fingers crossed), if not,
it'll be a few bob for kids in need.:thumb2

I'm buying a HP2, X-Challenge and a 1200GSA out of the money I save, and I'm so confident that
I'll succeed that I think I'll get 'em for Christmas.

BOTHER . .

. .norrabodder, as they say in Montenotte, Daithí. I do hope you are not an embarrassment to your fellow addicts!

Good on ye lads!

I hope ye all succeed, and if ya do, then stay off them for good.

I just hope your significant others are ready for the challenge too! cos givin up the smokes can make you a grumpy oul
But its worth it in the end :thumb

Best Of Luck
