Go for it. I spent 4 weeks riding round Spain avoiding motorways. Brilliant!!!

You meet people and get to see a different Spain. They are very hospitable and helpful, in fact they are not like us at all. If you break down they generally don’t drive past they stop and help.

Quick anecdote. Late at night in Spain black as your hat (well it would be with a GS headlight wouldn’t it) turn up in a village, no accommodation booked. Solution - go to local bar and ask where nearest hotel is. Miles away is general answer – gloom looks like a night in a field next to the bike. Local guy come up and say’s follow me. So off we go. Next thing I’m at his place bike is securely locked in barn, I’m being fed and watered buy him and his misses, good nights kip, shower and breakfast. Only worry I had was when he got really angry in the morning when I offered to pay him something for his hospitality. What more can you ask for, and I don’t speak Spanish.

Go for it if you are honest and genuine with people you meet you will be surprised what you will receive in return. A charged mobile unlocked for Europe is also a help.

Hi Phil,
After reading all of the above posts I am sure that you already know that there is nothing really to worry about travelling alone, in fact the problem that I am having at the moment in Morocco is not being able to be on my own!
A few days ago I was in a place called Merzouga, trying to set my camera up on my bike to take a photo of myself standing on top of a saharan sand dunne, and the next thing I knew was two little lads appeared from nowhere insisting on taking the photo for me.
Yesterday whilst up a mountain looking across at Mount Jebel Toubkal, looking for peace and quiet after a morning of madness in Marrakech, I was sure that I was miles from any one else. I sat down to read my book, alone, or so I thought. The next thing a little lad appears and sits down beside me. As the pages in my book were blowing in the wind, he saw this and put his hand on them so that I could continue reading!!!
The mobile is definately a must.
Yesterday I had to use it to check with my brother back in Ireland to see if it was ok to use leaded fuel as the only petrol station for miles around, did not sell unleaded.
I hope you enjoy your trip; I am loving every minute of mine.
