Did a similar trip a few years ago, in perfect weather... Fantastic. The road down the west coast to Ullapool was about the best. Tried the following year and it persisted down for four days! I suppose if it was always perfect weather the place would be packed.

looking over the river naver, bettyhill, very nice indeed, looks like you had the weather too, well done,
cheers for the pics.
capt.

Ah, Bettyhill. Taken just outside of the white hotel at the top of the hill then? Had a bizarre resident called Muzz (unshaved and unwashed for many years by the look of him). I stayed there for a night about four years ago. Rooms weren't en suite, so when I opened my door at 3am in the morning to go to the loo and Muzz was standing there I had a bit of a fright! I decided that I didn't need the loo, said goodnight to Muzz, and braced the door with a chair. Strange place!

Roll on a week on Friday, the 6th, Inverness, Orkney, Ullapool, Applecross and more.

Nice pics John.
Great long weekend, just what I needed to get away from it all...

It started when a friend organsed the trip but backed out at the last mninute which left us at 11pm the night before to organise some 4 day route. Anyway we got sorted and managed to get away for 8am on Friday.

Ready to leave (Without John who we would pick up at the border viewpoint on the A68.)

Over the forth bridge (nothing to see there) and up to Perth. Instead of the A9 took the A93 through the cairngorm mountains and passing Breamar. Brilliant roads, especially coming doen the other side, like a lap of donnington.

From the A93 to Inverness and up the boring A9 right to John O groats. Some 450 miles in the first day with some twisty roads too. Some going!!!

Pitched our tents right on clifftops overlooking Orkney Isles. It was light till around 12am.

Packed up early keen as ever and left for the northern trail which would take up along the northernmost roads to the western highlands.

Eventually came out of the highlands after stopping a hundred times for photos and down into ullapool

Refuled in ullapool and bumped into the Ulster BMW club who reccomended staying with them at the Balmacarra camp site on the A87 from which you can see the isle of skye.

Camp site is behind this hotel (where we went for evening grub!)

Had a walk around town and a stretch. Me and Matt.

Off and along the A82 to fort William and onto the camp site at Glenn Nevis. Getting hotter by the day. Magnificent views from here of Ben Nevis.
P1010240.JPG

Later when the sun wet over the hills it got quite chilly so we burnt the picnic table.
(only joking, someone else had already done that)
P1010246.JPG

Left fort William early and started our long and indirect route home.
Passing along the A82 past Glencoe. Beautiful.

Bumped into some weird creatures along the way

Heading towards the Trossacks, came accross the pack of charity raisers for Macmillan cancer.
