Ok iv'e got the normal 1150 GS (ie not the adventure).

And although I always said I would never take it off road.... lifes too short so I'm going to give it a go.

What mods would you recommend before hitting the dirt. So Far I am up to:

Crash bars (upper and lower) Check
TKC80's Check
Remove Mirrors Check
Remove Indicators Check
Touratech sport seat Check
Remove Foot peg rubbers Check
Remove Top Box and Panniers Check
Baglux tank cover Check
disable abs Check
Body armour Check
Life insurance Check

The first mod I would do is look where you're going, for example when coming up to a T junction, either turn left or turn right, DO NOT try and go over the 20 ft hedge.

Oh I remember Marlbouorgh so well:) :)

Just kidding, if you want to do so easy lanes/ fire tracks give me a ring , as I'll show you some of the South Downs

A Hernia Truss - waiting for you at home on your return.............

Make sure you strap the topbox on real tight:D Apart from that, nothing - just go for it.

Pix when you're done please:D

I would have made that hedge if I hadn't slowed down!! Next time i'll make it.

Still keeping the KTM 520, just fancy trying out the GS.

South downs sounds good.

Dave

If you're crossing any rivers or riding thru deep puddles, you might consider an extended breather for your bevel box.

Go for it and have fun:D

GS for dirt.

KTM boy.

Im glad to see you are going to take your GS off road.

I have your mobile no. Live near you so i think we should get out soon.

I cant do this Sunday as we are doing Pedders Way, then on to the beach at Hunstanton.

Apart from all the obviuos mods mentioned. The most single important mod is to remove the front mudguard in winter, even with the most aggressive tyres you will get stuck..Fact..

As the tyre gets caked in mud it throws it up on the guard. eventually jaming the wheel. Thats why your KTM guard is 10 inches above the tyre.

Essex mud is the worst for this as it is clay based.

I gave the same advice to two people last week. They thought i was mad. I had the last laugh however. When i drank tea from my flask as i watched them tryiny to cut them off on the trail with a pen knife.

Tony Allen.......Happy laning..

Glad to see that you've got the roll-over bars fitted.........:D

Does that apply to the rear guard as well?

Also where's Pedders way? Don't suppose there is room for one more in the Group?

Dave

Rear guard is o.k. When the back clogs up just twist the throttle and wheel spin will clear the rear.

pedders way.....norfolk.

Yes Paul Roberts is the guide on this one. I know the route myself but this is Pauls run. He wont take any more.

I will be going out in 2 sundays time. 27th i think. You can come out with us then if you like.

If you know paul then get on his case, he may fold under pressure.

Tony Allen:)

Yes I've been onto Paul after talking to Bob at Voyager. I'm on the waiting list if someone drops out. Fingers crossed. There is also an Essex TRF run on Sunday. So If I dont' go out on the GS then the KTM will be out. :D

Yes i'm up for the 27th. On any Sunday as far as i'm concerned.

Dave

I've noticed in the last picture that you've finally removed the rear guard, good idea as when it clogs up with mud the rear tyre will rip it off it's mounts.

I would take the original front seat in the low position and on top of the tool kit I'd have a bag with some vital stuff inside.

How about taking a first aid kit along?

Also a tow rope is handy for pulling out of bog holes.

Mick.
