Going to Morrocco without GPS?

Most people who go to Morocco stick to the red 'N' roads so they of course will manage fine, after all almost all the road signs are in western script and if in doubt just follow the diesel fumes to the next big town.

Are you a 'planner' who wants to see specific things, or a 'freebird' who will roam whereever? Having a GPS means you can be either, but if you are a freebird you may miss interesting sights only a couple of klicks away.

The British in India might not have had GPS but they had the pundits.

A bit of both. On this trip we'll have a few planned trails, but after that fate. I am seriously thinking that a combo of (a) GPS on my iPhone, (b) the ING maps with long/lat markings and (c) the MotionX software (just released on the iphone with topo map caching) may be enough and still give a rich sense of adventure.

Strange... why use pundits? Did they not think of www.ukgser.com :type :D

3.5 weeeks to go :tarka

What GPS system do you use Tim?
My first GPS about seven-eight years ago was TomTom running on an HP iPaq under Windows Mobile--dreadful. I then moved to the Garmin 2610 about four years ago, then upgraded to a Zumo 550 which currently meets all my needs, especially the ability to store the tracklog of literally months of travels.

We are off to Morocco via Spain in five weeks ourselves. I'll be the one at the crossroads looking for my glasses and squinting at a map ... no GPS either :blast

4 of us leave for Maroc beginning of May also.
Looks like it's gonna be busy :)

Having been a map-only person for a few years, my latest experience of navigating the back roads of Wales with my partner has led me to invest in a Zumo 550 (thanks Tim - I looked at the Zumo along with the BMW and the latest TomTom equivilents). Now, I will be the the person at the crossroads trying to work out how to use the GPS ... :blast

No GPS either...

Got a map, eyes and a compass.
Iphone in bag just in case (buying £50 of data download from o2 to avoid nasty bills)

WORD TO THE WISE - if you use your iphone Motion X (which is bl00dy good by the way), make sure to switch off your data roaming facility. I heard a rumour that some muppet came home from a mountain bike holiday aboroad, using Motion X everyday, only to find a £4000 bill from O2.

Hmmm... might take a look on EBay!!
