Our 2010 BMW R1200GSA is about prepped now for our trip to S.America. Can anyone recommend an alarm for the bike. Our objective is to provide a deterrent to people fiddling with the bike/getting to curious and to have a system that will blow their eardrums out if a serious thief tries to take it. Something with a movement sensor that pages us if we are away from the bike.
Have looked at Gorilla alarms and others but keep coming up with negative reviews for one reason or another. It needs to be a robust system, waterproof and able to withstand many months with rough roads aplenty (e.g. won't get shaken to pieces by corrugations in Patagonia)
Any personal experience of a good alarm system (or even ones to avoid) would be most helpful.
Thanks folks. Jim

A friend of mine back in the early 1990s had an Austin Montego diesel. A clunky but very economical car and also as secure as a paper bag.
He put a an internal battery alarm under the dash. When that went off the car was unusable. The noise from outside was not especially loud.

His point was car alarms get ignored by everyone so use it to deter use of the car.

A bike a tracker and heavy lock & chain would be more useful than any alarm.

I would forget any alarm system on reliability grounds.

+1 to Bendy toy's suggestion of a heavy lock and chain and make sure that you chain the bike TO something and that the chain/lock is taut and not dangling on the floor where it can be attacked.

Beats an alarm which will no doubt shake itself to bits in no time, leaving you vulnerable.

A heavy chain / padlock leaves you one less thing to worry about...plus you can't leave your helmets wrapped around an alarm when you go off sight-seeing... !

If you HAVE to fit an alarm, get one of the super security disc locks with movement sensor.

Most people would be wanting to strip an alarm OFF the bike before a long trip......I DEFINITELY wouldn't be putting one on :rob

If u must then get a cheap one and only use motion sensor don't brae any circuits just a live feed and earth. Wire in indicators if you want to increase complexity. JJH
