The deed is done! having sold my F650GS to Matron earlier this week, I've just bgt a new granite grey R1200GS from Duncan @ Vines. I'm planning to add the BMW panniers/topbox/tankbag and the rocker cover protectors in preference to the engine bars. Anything I've missed?

Well done Jeremy... :clap

Look forward to reading of your further travels (on the 12 this time)

Have still to see the new grey colour 'in the flesh' so to speak. Do you have the silver or black panels? Am sure it looks fine either way. Any pics of the new baby yet?

Loads of stuff on extras for the 12 on here... as you know already the search button is your friend. A word of warning mind... since owning the 12 I think I have developed OCD (common to all GSers... maybe :bow ) Lastest mod is changing the red bits to yellow... :tosser

Have also doubled my previous annual mileage in 7 months :D

Enjoy your bike... :bounce1

Yeah, you missed a great chance to get a GSA.

Seriously though, all the best with the new 12.

I was at SPC this morning to look at a 1150GSA when Jeremy Kerr, the sales guy, said that the new 1200GSA will be at the show. His BMW release said it will be 232kg, higher seat, "bulky" with luggage by TT as reported on the site. Likely to cost £9750 or there abouts. Well I don't need the higher seat or added bulk. Silver with spokes looks the biz to me.

Nearly had a "how do I explain that to the missus moment" when I sat on the HP2!

PS the SPC GSAs were German imports. Yes the BMW backup is all there but how much would you loose when trying to sell it on?

How come you didn't buy the 1200 from SPC? Was it a better £ deal at Vines?

I bgt my first F650GS from them and they have been faultless. I was living in Tokyo at the time and didn't have a chance to even test ride the bike. I bgt it on trust. They've done all the work on the bike, provided the Remus etc, let me test ride more bikes than I have a right to, fed me at the Hog Roast, Mike/Andrew/Penny/Darren/Antoine have all been fantastic. I'm a big fan.

And yes they gave me a very healthy discount off the extras.

Jeremy congrats on the new bike...look forward to seeing it and yourself at one of the meets... :thumb

Many thx for all the replies.

One addition I wanted to make early one was a hugger but having searched the site, I see varying responses to the Motorrad/NN/Wunderlich options. Are there any recent opinions?

Jeremy

I've had my Wunderlich Hugger on for 10 months now and 10,000 miles - seems to be fine and doing the job of keepin' the crap off...enough space to put TKC 80's on with it as well...

I've got the Motorad Concepts hugger in yellow, which looks really good. Makes my GS look like a big Tonka toy! If you're about this Sunday morning (Oct 2nd) drop by to Wey Valley Adv M/c at Ripley Village Hall (take the A3 exit after the M25 jct if coming from Kingston) and you can see my bike, plus (probably) a few others.

Congrats Jeremy but a word of caution. I fitted Hepco-Becker bars to my 2004 GS1200 and was hit yesterday morning on my way to work by an Audi. I lost a bit of paint off the engine bars thats all, despite colliding 3 times as I bounced alongside the car wrestling the bars. She has two slight creases in her door skins. If I had the plastic cylinder covers, I reckon I would be needing a new head cover by now. I would recommend you buy metal bars mate, seriously.

Lucky for me really, if I had been on my Yamaha sportsbike I would now have a badly bruised or broken leg and a lot of broken plastic to repair.

Over to my insurers......

Thanks for that. The BMW bars were £220 vs £110 for the protectors and to be honest Duncan @ Vines didn't really express a preference apart from saying that no bars made servicing less of a fiddle. I'll do a few miles on it and see what I think. Again, I read lots of opinions re TT/H&B/BMW bar opinions.

Thx for the thoughts.

Cheers Tomcat but Sunday mornings are now taken up with my son's rugby @ Ldn Irish and then he has a karate exam after that! will drop you a line and try to meet another time.

Having read all the opinions on the site and your own comments, the H&B bars arrive next week. And also £80 cheaper than the BMW bars!
