I'm off across Europe to Bosnia in three weeks time so thought I'd better put a new front tyre on.

My 'old style' Tourance had done 15,481 miles without giving me any concerns.

The centre tread blocks were wearing down at the edges but generally I still had just over 2mm tread left, with 3mm to 4mm at the edges. You can see that I'm a 'touring' rider :D

I decided to go for one of the Tourance EXPs, I won't get the same mileage but as I'll be doing some hairpins in the Alps I thought it wise to go 'sticky'.

This cost me £85.95, fitted and balanced on a loose wheel.

The new tyre has a different tread pattern, I'll be interested to compare it with the old one.

I have an EXP on the rear with about 3,500 miles on it, so now have the matching set.

I always run with Ultraseal installed. This is supposed to promote long tyre life by removing hot spots. Maybe its working ??? :nenau

Oh yes - the bike is an '04 1150 GSA with 23,558 miles on it (its going in for its 24,000 mile service on 2nd Sept).

Tyre was £68.94
Balance was £4.21

Then add VAT.

They are a Kawasaki & Vespa dealer, but also have other makes in the showroom.

A proper little bike shop, run by a couple of enthusiastic brothers (Craig & John).

I get MOTs done there as well as Motorrad Central don't do them.

Some quite good deals on clothing as well :thumb

Usual disclaimers (though their Sister lives next door to me :D).

Well, I think I'm a 'careful' rider but not that slow. After all, I passed my bike test in 1964 and I'm still alive :D.

I do try to maintain a nice cruising pace that allows me to sweep the bends without relying on the brakes too much.

That tyre has been through Spain and Morocco, carrying a full load of luggage whilst being part of the four-bike 'Steam Team' that left the rest of the tour behind :D.

I do try to avoid wheelies and stoppies though.

Impressive mileage!

I only ever seem able to manage 8k max on tourances.

I got just over 17k out of the first 'old style' tourance I put on my 1100, though it was pushing hard on the borders of legality when I changed it...:augie
I usually got around 11.5k out of a rear.

I changed to trail attacks last year, I'm still curious to find out how they compare, if I ever get the bloody thing going again!

Always used Tourance on my 1150 with good mileage ,about 10k, and they were ok for me with only a couple of minor slides at the back. Changed OE Bridgestones for EXP on 1200 and they feel pretty good ,but dont expect them to last. Have done about 2000 pretty gentle touring miles and now have to change as the rear wont do another trip to Spain where I expect to do about 2000 miles. Only about 4mm left out of 8-9mm when new.

Credit to ya matie ... I ride the same but only manage 5,000 to 7,000 out of a front, 4,000 to 5,000 out of a rear

That IS bad... if the mileage is that bad for too many GSers and other BTBRs then Metzeler will be losing sales... they might have to do something then.

Bob got less than 4K from a rear EXP Im now sticking to the older type, just changed the front to the old type £77 all in, rear changed in Portugal for the older type 150 euro in July. Have a great time away:thumb
