My 2000 dak cost 2500 private 4 years ago with 25k on the clock. I should think you could haggle the price a bit....

Wife has just bought a W plate with under 14,000 miles for £1500 - obviously private, in good nick with grips and topbox datatagged but bodywork has been overpainted black. So deals are out there. Also seen some low milage salvage examples at about the price you mention but much lower milage, only year or two old and a few hundred quid and own time to make immaculate. If your mate can wait, or is willing to do some work, there will be better bikes at lower prices along in due course. For that you can get a newer lower milage model...if you're lucky
