I called their service centre last week about a problem with my 550. Without warning it suddenly switched off and when restarted would stop during the map load sequence. A reset didn't fix the problem.

After chatting about the issue, the call centre guy said - 'Post it back (just the head unit) to us and we'll send a new one' - brilliant! The old one was 15 months old

I was expecting just the head unit to arrive, but no, 5 days later a full new 550 box of bits arrived with updated 2010 mapping and all the cables mounts etc.

Now that's good service. Thank you Garmin.

Not so good

My Zumo 550 died in exactly the same way at 23 months old. Garmin flatly refused to fix it, I had to pay £129 for an exchange unit.
The only up-side was the replacement unit included a map upgrade, which (had I wanted to buy it) would have cost £72.
Not good ! It's reasonable to expect a premium unit like a Zumo to last more than 2 years.
Unfortunately the retailer from whom I bought the Zumo seems to have stopped trading, so I had no option but to cough up the £129.
Next time, I'll be more careful where I buy from. If it's a few quid more to buy from a reputable retailer, that's got to pay dividends when the unit packs up.

Good Warranty Service from Garmin

I too have had excellent service from Garmin. in October 2008 I purchased a replacement mount for my zumo 550 as one of the pins had corroded and broke off.

Anyway, a month ago I notice that the replacement was starting to show signs of pins receeding into the unit, so emailed support to request how do I return this under guarantee seeing as it was less than 1 year old.

Reply from Garmin.....

"Sorry to hear you are having a problem, a new mount is in the post..."

3 days later new mount arrived, not even got to send the old one back..

Top service Garmin Thanks:thumb
