Google One account are asking that I upload my ID in order to renew my gmail 100gb storage. Is this normal?. There’s no way I’d upload my driving licence online to anyone other than a govt website.

I think they are introducing this, slowly.
Not the first time I hear about it.

I created a new Google account associated to my work email to access some Analytics and just to update the privacy settings of that account they asked me to upload the ID (to prove I'm over 18). I didn't as I'm not that bothered and I don't want to provide ID for such things.

I just recently purchased Google One (the 100GB storage) for my personal account and they didn't ask for ID though.
But, I've been using that account for decades. Not sure if they have inferred/connected any ID from other devices connected to that account.

By the way, are they asking on the settings section when you try to renew or via email? There is a fair bit of phishing around this as well.
