Is it possible to devise a route on google map and then transfer this route to my 2610 or is the 2610 too old. The 2610 is running the V9 update.

yep you can

use a tool like

http://routeconverter.de/

Click on file then open, change file type to google URL paste your google map URL and clcik open

Click save as and change the file type to what ever you need.

Works for most if not all Sat navs.

Play around with it and youll find its quite a powerfulk conversion/routing tool.

This question often pops up on the Zumo forum, and various links are given to sites that can convert Googlemaps or Via Michellin, but the bottom line always seems to be, why not use Mapsource, which is very good and designed for Garmin units.

Added to which, to get the route onto a 2610 (or any pre Nuvi/Zumo) you'll need Mapsource on your PC.

Maybe the OP has been sent a link to a route and wants to get that route into Mapsource so he can then load it onto his 2610

With v9 mapping on the 2610 he might be better off just re-tracing the route in Mapsource anyway.

Hi, I tried this but it appears it's looking for a location on my PC to open from, am I doing something wrong? I even read the online manual but couldn't find anything in there.

Hmm, interesting? It works on the 32bit version 1.32, but not on the 64bit version 2.0 for some reason

Thanks for the info, two reasons why I don't use mapsoure is one I've not played about with it that much and don't really know how to use it ( that's my fault ) the other is that Google Map seems easier, you can see the roads better and you can change the routes easier, plus when I try to send the route to the sat nav the computer can't find the sat nav and keeps telling me its not connected when it is.
Anyway thanks for the info and I will try again, although I am a numty with modern technology

I'm pretty sure that you'll need to use Mapsource to load the GPX file, resulting from your Google Maps conversion, and then send it to your 2610. The pre Nuvi/Zumo models can't, that I'm aware, load routes directly from a GPX file.

To help your PC re-find your GPS try reloading the Garmin USB drivers.

Mapsource is pretty easy to use and, as already noted, it is the right tool for the job. I am sure it would be a lot easier and sensible to learn how to use the program that is made for the job rather than use the wrong program and then try to learn how to use another program that you don't really need to convert the file to the type you need.

Time spent learning how to use Mapsource (or Basemap for Macs) can be well worthwhile. My wife and I have used them to plan tours around West and East Europe over the last five years and have not bothered to take maps, just a Netbook with Mapsource installed.

I concur re. learning how to use Mapsource, the best way to proceed as it runs the same mapping as you GPS, has the same POIs etc. There are some handy tutorials in this forum (sticky threads at the top) to get you started.

My wife and I have used them to plan tours around West and East Europe over the last five years and have not bothered to take maps, just a Netbook with Mapsource installed.

Great for touring and like you I pack a netbook. However, I always have a set of paper maps as well, perfect for the planning overview as well as the "what's over yonder mountain" and "we started at A, going to B and we're currently here" moments. GPS isn't great for the detailed wider view.
