I have tried this and after some initial playing around with waypoints I have to say, it's fantastic!

Yet to try it in anger, but have got lots of new routes on my 550 ready for the Ireland trip later this month.

Have to say that I do not like basecamp but not a lot of options really - mapsource just about the same and I believe that this is not supported anymore.
