. . . so heading up through Glencoe and Ullapool tomorrow (Wed). Stopping at Thurso (last minute booking- cheap) and hopefully back down through Lecht + Glen Shee via JoG. Just because I can.

Hi speed. Got a night out in Edinburg toon on Thursday. Gotta rush now.

Wonder what the weather forecast is?

what he said. turned out quite nice here today though in the end despite the forecast. It'll be what it'll be. It's still god's riding country :flag:thumb2

Home in 1 piece

So rain, hail or shine, I was gonna head North for a whistle stop run across the top of Scotland, stopping the night in Thurso before popping into JoG before heading South again. And the weather gods looked down with favour. This was the route plan.

Rain came on here, so on with the rain suit.

Then it was murky with roads wet and dry to Fort Bill, where things brightened up considerably.

I think there's a high mountain lurking up there somewhere.

Lunch here was a bargain - soup, sannie + cuppa all for a fiver. Bargain.

The rain suit had to come off before Ullapool as things were warming up nicely.

Had to squeeze past 4 German Harley Dudes who didn't seem to understand how single track passing places should be used on the road to Tongue.

Where a welcome cuppa was found here.

Why does an "I Luv Tongue" sticker make me smile?

I think the other one is a Bongo.

Saw part of our industrial heritage.

With an impression of how it may look in future.

Next morning dawned grey but dry, with rain threatening to move south from Orkney, so I made an early departure from Thurso to say hi to the most northely point here.

Then to JoG itself. The traditional signpost was nowhere to be seen so I settled for this.

What a fantastic road from Thurso down to Brora, where the sun was out and the North Sea was looking it's best.

668 miles. Ave speed 50/55 each day. Fuel usual 45-50 mpg. Nice. A wee bit of a wash needed now.

See that there Last House shop, Mrs Klanky runs that.

If you saw a bad-tempered midget with a Yorkshire accent near there - you've met the missis.:D

You were lucky witht the weather, gales now.

That looks great, glad that you were mostly lucky with the weather:thumb

Some good photo's!

might be getting a pass out 3rd and 4th Sept, I'd like to try that wee trip, where did you stay over, how much etc........:flag

I started with Google, looking at Tongue, but no vacancies, but then tripped over the Royal Hotel Thurso via Booking dot com. Was a relative bargain at 38 notes for B+B, but it was pretty tired looking and I was not excited when I had to leave the bike round the side, effectively on the street. However, it was still there in the morning. Being in town centre was a plus point.

Using google I now see several Thurso hotels.

As I rode in to Thurso from the west I wished I was staying at the new-looking Weigh Inn motel. No idea of cost or standard of service.
